The Legend of Crazy Woman Creek
The North Fork of Crazy Woman Creek tumbles down the dramatic Crazy Woman Canyon in the Bighorn Mountains southwest of Buffalo Wyoming. Huge towering rock formations make up the canyon and in some places the creek disappears into a fissure below the creek bed.
There are a few legends of how Crazy Woman Canyon and Creek got its name. One legend involves an American Indian woman and in the other legend, the main character is a white woman. Both are stranded in the canyon and their hearts are full of grief due to a tragedy.
A popular legend is a woman who was touched by the Great Spirit and so carries good medicine, can be glimpsed on a moon lit night in her canoe shooting the creeks rapids from village to village
